So I’m curious to know how and why some of all of you came to be Steelers fans. I live in Iowa and even when I was little I was a Steelers fan. My dad, who is a Bears fans the pour soul, asked me one day when I was little. “Son who do you like for football”? Apparently my response was “I like the Steelers because they steal the ball”. Ever since then I’ve blead black and gold! Always have and always will! So what are some of your guys story. How and why did you become a Steelers fan?

My family is from Pittsburgh. My dad worked at U.S. Steel in the early 1980’s and was one of many that were laid off. We ended up moving to the DC area when I was 4 years old. As I grew up, the Redskins were winning a ton and the Steelers were not putting the best teams in the league on the field. I remember after the 1991 season where Mark Rypien and Clark, Monk, and Sanders lit up the NFL and won the Super Bowl I asked my dad if I could be a Redskins fan like the rest of my friends. He said, “Sure, son. You’ll just have to find a new place to live.” So, I started rooting for the Steelers through what many remember to be a tough time in the late 80’s and early 90’s.

Later in life, I actually learned the significance of our history and thanked my father for his guidance. There isn’t a better franchise in all of football to be a part of. And unlike many teams, the fans actually are a part of this team. The Rooneys understand that better than any other franchise. Granted, Art II isn’t quite as tuned in as his dad or grandfather.
