Yeah no rational person can deny that Cason is currently better than Giddey in almost every aspect except passing.

That said… if he reached his potential as a big guard who can properly utilize his size and above 30% shooting and can defend decently this will give us a massive edge against other teams. He already shown flashes but it’s just flashes we need consistency from our starting point guard.

What we should ask is how likely will he reach this potential? Do we have the means to help him develop? And do we have the time to wait for him to get there?

To be honest I have no answer for these questions

Giddey has certainly had a slow start to the season and there’s no denying that. I think he’s just in a slump and will get things figured out soon.

Cason has been incredible. Presti struck gold, yet again. He’s exceeded my expectations in every way. Can’t wait to see more.

I love how we had these same threads about Dort over the years yet the narrative has completely changed. This sub is truly “what have you done for me lately”.

This is still a developmental year, have some patience brother

The thing that’s more concerning to me than the shooting is passing. This is supposed to be his elite skill that helps make up for his deficiencies, but I’m not seeing the growth he needs to pick apart a defense. His assist numbers are down and his turnovers are so lazy or sloppy. A version of Giddey that is relentless at exploiting his size on smaller defenders to dissect the defense with buckets at the rim and passes out of the post is a really valuable player, but the Giddey we’re seeing is further from that than I would have hoped.

I have no idea how likely it is he gets there, but I’m rooting for him to get close by the end of the season.

Giddey isn’t a bad player I think he’s bad fit. There was always going to be a guy who is more talented than he fits on our roster and that person would wind up being more valuable as an asset than as a player. I suspect that person is Giddey. Giddey is very good when he’s not on the court with Shai. Cason isn’t at all better than Giddey.

He’s young, it’s early in the season. Massive upside and we aren’t hunting the ring yet so no reason to dump before we know what we have. Cason has been amazing though.

I don’t even care about Giddey’s shooting or finishing right now. It’s the fit on defense is concerning. Our guards seem to be complacent this year leaving Chet to protect the rim at the last minute. I think we did a better job last year in terms of defensive intensity

I really would want to slot Kenrich early in the 1st and let Giddey orchestrate the 2nd unit with shooters around him

Less than 10 games, be realistic. I hope Cason is incredible but it’s also important to know that coaches haven’t had time to adjust to how he plays yet either which could effect his numbers. Same reason to be happy about Chet but to give it all some time.

Everyone shitting on Giddey as if Julius Randle isn’t still shooting sub 35% on the season as a guy who’s been an established all star. And Dame is playing pretty ass rn to start. Plus Giddey is still the same age as a lot of rookies. Let him figure it out good grief
