I have a 2013 Camry se 4 cylinder with 17,000 miles. The service department says I need to have the oil changed every year, even though I have only driven about 750 miles this year. Realistically how often do I really need to change it?
I’d bet that motor oil never had a chance to get hot long enough, to burn off moisture in it’s 750mi life (i.e. driven a good distance on fwy/hwy). If the year is up, I’d definitely change it.
For a 2013 with only 17k miles…is this motor oil with this mileage age repeated yearly? Driven only on short trips?
We are retired and we are keeping a car we only drive 750 miles a year because we still need a way to buy groceries and go to appointments and for short trips to see family out of town during holidays.
An electric car seems like a perfect fit for that.
We have an appointment to have it serviced next week, but we were just curious if it did really need it. Thanks for the information.
It was driven more when I was working, but I retired 3 years ago, so not so much anymore.
You need to change your oil every 6 months regardless of mileage, putting only 750 miles a year does much more damage to your engine than driving 7500 miles a year
The manual for a 2013 Camry says the oil should be changed every 5000 miles or every 6 months, whichever comes first.
