I have a 4Runner with 224k miles. I change the oil every 5k and use full synthetic oil. I use Fram 10k oil filters. I’m curious if I can skip changing the filter everyother oil change. I know they are cheap, I’m just curious.

    Fram are the absolute worst oil filter. They suck. And yes. Every time you get an oil change you’re supposed to change the oil filter. Every damn time.

    I change filters every other oil change have been doing so for 15 years. Most owners manual have a separate interval for the filter than the oil so I believe what they say over what a company who stands to profit off you buying their products say.

    I would argue it’s more important to change the filter than the oil. Dirty oil can always get filtered by a new/clean filter. Once the filter gets dirty enough and the flow is impeded enough, a bypass opens and the oil doesn’t get filtered at all.
