Shout out to what the man has done this year. You lose Tomlinson, Kendricks, Pat Peterson, and Zadarius Smith to FA (although debatable if most of them were actually a huge loss, but they were experienced pro bowl starters at every level) and don’t add many replacements besides Murphy Jr and Davenport who has barely played. The guy has a very young secondary outside of Hitman along with a lack of overall starting talent on the D line yet he has improved in nearly every major area compared to last year:
2022 DVOA: 23rd
2022 PPG Allowed: 29th
2022 YPG Allowed: 31st
2022 Rushing yards allowed per game: 20th
2022 Passing yards allowed per game: 31st
2023 DVOA: 10th
2023 PPG Allowed: 14th
2023 YPG Allowed: 13th
2023 Rushing yards allowed per game: 11th
2023 Passing yards allowed per game: 18th
Of course its half way through the season but its incredible what he’s done with what he has to work with. I really hope he sticks around one more year at least. Hunter and Bynum are having career seasons, Booth Jr is finally getting snaps and actually playing decent, even Hicks is playing out of his mind after seeming pretty washed last season.
If they keep playing at this level and you then add in a healthy JJ to this offense combined with Dobbs continually learning the playbook/system better each week, we could have a 2017 situation on our hands.
