Obviously they’ve been together for 2yrs which is more than most rosters, and they’ve been hinting that it would be their last dance
But if they win Worlds by crushing everyone like they’re doing, would it be enough to consider sticking together for longer? I feel like it would be a waste to disband such a winning team. And a lot of fans grew fond of that particular ZOFGK roster throughout the last years, even more than old SKT rosters
Everyone’s saying that Zeus might leave. I can’t find the interview but Zeus has mentioned that he feels like SKT T1 back in the day always changed top laners, and that he wanted to be remembered in T1 as the top laner that actually stayed and had a tenure of multiple years. He has “multiple” years already (2) but I imagine longer than that.
I can actually foresee Faker taking a paycut to keep this team together. Better yet, fire Joe Marsh and use his salary for players.
The issue is that all 5 players are probably the best in the world at their roles right now, if they let someone go they will immediately make other LCK teams stronger, imagine Keria to KT, Zeus to DK or GenG, Oner to GenG or HLE, Guma to GenG or KT, each and every one of those possibilities can very easily result in an LCK #1 team. I’m obviously assuming Faker stays. I do remember there was a worlds content piece where Guma said his motivation for winning was that the roster would stay together if they won. That implies that T1 will stick if they win.
Overall, 2 years is a standard “roster life”. 2015-2016 SKT, 2019-2020 G2, 2018-2019 IG, 2019-2020 FPX and many more.
We don’t know team dynamics. What is the issue, why they are not happy playing together, how they communicate, etc. They came to Worlds clearly tired from each other and wanted to depart, maybe this run rebuild them together? Still I doubt.
You might notice that when T1 players speak, especially Guma, they rarely say smth like “oh my great team, I love my team, we enjoy playing together, my entire team play good”. They mainly talk about themselves, it speaks to me a lot about atmosphere.
No, sometimes contracts are already negotiated with the understanding that they wont/can’t announce it til after the window is open. This is even more true as you get deeper into Worlds. The longer you last in Worlds the more awkward it becomes when you know you won’t be together afterwards.
The reason they hinted at it is because they already knew and was giving a nice warning to the fans so they wouldn’t be surprised. Winning Worlds won’t change their position that they have agreements to go to other teams.
