Just interested on everyone’s thoughts about the In-Season Tournament. Personally, unless the NBA adopts a “points system” similar to the NHL, then this Tournament doesn’t really mean much to the fans or the teams. For example, if the NBA adopted a points system during the regular season a team win would equal 2 points.

Then during the tournament, the points would accumulate. The 8 teams that make it to the “Knockout Round” (aka the Quarterfinals) get awarded an 4 extra points each… In the Semifinals (those 4 teams would get awarded an additional 4 extra points each)… the Championship round (the 2nd place team would get awarded an extra 6 points)… And the Tournament winner would get awarded an extra 8 points… The 3rd place game winner would get awarded an extra 2 or 4 points… Whichever way the math would work, there should be a real incentive for the teams to play… and for the fans to really get invested into watching.

Think about it… a team can get on a hot streak in the beginning of the regular season… then start to fall off mid or late season… If they made it far into the In-Season Tournament, then those extra points could be a difference between getting a higher seed or even making the post season. Interested in what you guys think about that… and what would you do to improve the tournament?
