1 year agoThis tournament only works if the NBA adopts a point system in the regular season (similar to NHL or Soccer). The tournament ‘group play’ wins would be worth more points than a regular season win. And the ‘knockout round’ wins would be worth more points than in the ‘group play’ round.
Thanks… Yeah… I figure since the NBA designed the In-Season Tournament in a Group play and point differential format (like soccer) then it would only make sense for them to eventually do a point-based system for the entire regular season.
I would even like to see the NBA get rid of overtime. Instead, they should do something similar to hockey and soccer to break the tie after multiple overtimes. After regulation, if the game is tied, the home team would get to choose from 1 of 3 options to decide the winner:
(1v1) Free-throw shooting contest (best free throw shooter from each team would take 5 free throw shots. If the score is still tied after 5 attempts, each player would take alternate turns shooting free throws until someone misses and the other one makes it)
(1v1) Game of H.O.R.S.E. (best field goal shooter from each team play against each other in a traditional game of H.O.R.S.E. If the game is tied after, they keep going until a winner is determined)
(5v1) Score in the Paint (the best defender from each team has 5 attempts to stop the opposing team’s 5 best scorers from scoring in the paint, similar to a shootout in hockey or penalty-shootout in soccer. The basket has to be scored inside of the paint or the point doesn’t count. If the game is tied after 5 attempts, they keep going until a winner is determined). -this strategy would be best for a team with a dominant lock-down defender-
