Not to set a record or to race, what’s your dream setup? And what soundtrack do you drive to?

I’d probably end up in a camper listening to Jerry Reed, but wishing I was in a Holden VL Walkinshaw. Each to their own. Tell me.

My SL, perfect for occasions like that. Plenty of power to enjoy, not enough power to be completely unwieldy for my co driver. More than enough space for luggage and drinks, stately enough to valet at any hotel.

This is a fun thought. Split between a Rolls Royce Dawn and a W12 Bentley Continental GT convertible. For a full cross-country trip I want the most comfortable car possible. If I stick to mainly highway routes the Rolls edges it. If I decide I want to summit every major mountain then the balance shifts to the Bentley.

Soundtrack would vary. Probably start out with the Omar Rodriguez Lopez portfolio, when that gets overwhelming switch to a math rock playlist, then some blues rock, then some jazz.

GMC Savanna conversion van. If I’m going coast to coast, is like it to be comfortable.

I want to do cross-country two ways in my life.

Route 66 via the original alignment as much as possible, which means some dirt roads on the main trip and some worse dirt roads to see sights along the way. I’d head back to the root of the Colorado River and trace it all the way back home, whether it be paved or dirt. I’m thinking ‘68-72 Suburban with suspension mods for comfort and handling. Preferably something with patina and Mexican blankets on the seats.

A trip up the coast to Seattle, across the northern states ending at Acadia National Park, then down the East Coast to the Keys, then back via highways, not freeways as much as possible. I’d throw in a little Montana mining road exploration. There are many times during that trip that I would wish I had nothing over my head but trees or air, so it’d need to have removable roof panels. I’m thinking Bronco Raptor.

When I did it, it was a 2005 Ford Escape that I converted into a mini camper. Soundtrack was re-listrnig to the hitchhikers guide series and whatever pandora station felt right that day. Lots of hipster indie rock in the PNW and a lot of Johnny Cash in the SW. 2 months, 12k miles, 12 national parks, 24 breweries and distilleries.

Anything quiet and comfortable with good seats. Don’t really need speed or any fancy features for this.

Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG. 738ft/lb (1000nm) of torque, twin turbo V12, every option imagineable (night vision, massage seats, etc.) and overall very comfortable and fast.

Probably a Z31 or Iroc Z, almost 100% blasting 80s glam rock or Citypop.
