I feel like we need to start tossing him in the top 5 discussion, personally. The guy has elite decision-making. It’s been a little shocking how well Goff has turned out to be, I never thought especially high of Jared before he came to the Lions, but I would argue that he has at this point become a smarter quarterback than Matthew Stafford ever was.

Please banish me to jail if I’m off base about this.

I’m a big Goff supporter, always have been. Personally I’ve got him somewhere in the 6-10 range for now at least. The top 5 in my opinion is really reserved for the guys who can do more with less. Every QB needs good protection and weapons if you want them to perform their best but Goff is a bit more reliant on his surrounding cast.

Now I said “for now” because Goff is the kind of QB who ages like a fine wine. He’s very cerebral and if he develops the ability to mind fuck a defense like Brady or Peyton did then he’ll be moving up the ranks.

Top 5 quarterbacks make bad teams good. Think about the Bengals the year before Joe Burrow. Or the Colts the year Peyton Manning missed a season.

Goff is good. Very good. But he cannot elevate a garbage team to a Super Bowl contender single handedly.
