I know, I’m putting a bull’s-eye on my back with this header, and I know that it will likely get down voted into oblivion.

But if we’re being honest, Pitts is our team’s Fields.

He was billed to be this unique, super special player who would change the world, and since he’s not been that, our fandom is coming up with every excuse for him in the book.

The problem is, both have a huge and high ceiling. Neither are making it there. Fields doesn’t read defenses well, can’t make the touch passes, and is just overall a mid QB. He’s exciting when it’s time for top 10 plays, but not much past that. And every excuse in the book is being thrown his way. The Bears suck. He’s been mismanaged. They’re not running the right plays. Ad nauseum.

Pitts is getting the same treatment here. Bad QB, not being schemed, whatever. But every game, you see Pitts being manhandled by linebackers who are rushing the passer or rushing the RBs. You see him let up instead of pushing that last 10% of his energy to go for a ball. He’s not finding holes and reading his defenders. People keep saying “Look what he did with a competent QB” forget that AJ Brown still ate with Andy Dalton. McLaurin still ate with Taylor Heinicke.

Pitts isn’t eating because he is mid.

I just don’t see Pitts making cuts. Like sticking a foot in the ground and accelerating in another direction. Like ever. His routes are rounded and never tries to make anyone loss when he has the ball. Maybe he’s not fully confident in the knee, maybe he never will be?
