I see all these posts and discussion about Giddey not being a right fit and we should consider trading him sooner rather than later while his value is still high.

Of course fit is going to come up for some of our guys sometime, but that is not the time.

I remember a lot of us (including me I’ll admit it) saying the same thing about Dort last year, and now he’s playing amazing and I’m not hearing a pip about his fit.

So that’s why I’m not concerned about Giddey, especially since it’s so early in the season and the same thing happened last year, he had a rough start then played very good. And honestly, his talent at his age wouldn’t make me panick even if still does have a subpar year.

You guys need to be patient, were still one of, if not the youngest team in the league, these guys are young especially Giddey, he’s younger than Jalen guys ! And we’ve only played 10 games and are on a good standing and showing a lot of growth.

I know it’s mostly a vocal minority but I thought I should post as well so that this sub is not full of pessimistic posts.

Nope, it’s not even close. I only see 3 users actively shitting on Giddey in game threads. Dort and Bazley got way more heat last year.

There are people who’ve began to question his future on the team, but that’s a completely logical and pertinent thought. Not anything hateful or mean.

    It’s different, though.

Dort is an elite defender, and has always shown the makings of being a high level role player next to Shai, his hot start this year is just validating that. He’s a starting level player who’s making starting level player money.

Giddey is an undeniably productive guy, but at no point since arriving in Oklahoma City has he shown the ability to play off Shai, who is undeniably the guy for us. With his two seasons of good production, and his age, he and his agent are likely going to demand the kind of contract that Jaden McDaniels got, and quite frankly he’s not worth that to us.

MY theory is he has to train defenses to respect his driving/finishing ability because they’re already trained to watch for the pass.

If teams are leaving him open because they fear his pass more, he HAS to take advantage because the day he loses that is the day his game really becomes a hinderance.

I’m personally a fan of this version of Gid, the trend of OKC players so far is the things they do a lot, they end up mastering. So if Giddey can be a driving threat at high volume??? Do y’all know what that does for us? Like if Giddey is just ANOTHER SGA/dub type… sheesh.

I think exactly the same, as I said in another comment, he has to be a better offensive option so that his passing can shine. What we’re seeing is a Giddey that is “forcing” his drives so that he gets better eventually so that his playmaking can be at its best. Then it’ll be his shooting. You can’t be better without trying and trying.

Right now teams don’t fear Giddey. Lol. Right now they are happy AF that he’s on the floor screwing something up.

I think it’s okay to be concerned about Giddey. He hasn’t started great and if he doesn’t show any progression or regresses a little from last season, then I think the FO decisions aren’t cut and dry. What is ridiculous is writing him off as a failure that we need to move on from.

There was a play last night where the call didn’t go his way and the next play he immediately charged down the court and very nearly lost it. That’s emblematic of what he needs to work out of his habits. There’s also a play every game where he buffalos through the paint and lays in an easy one. That’s emblematic of what he can contribute every night when he gains consistency. Nowadays we’re seeing some poor shooting but when his shot is falling, the defensive mismatch will be in his favor 90% of the time and will equate to efficient buckets in the playoffs where top (smaller) guards have to defend him.
