It’s pretty wild seeing PC gamers getting behind the idea of turning their platform into a more exclusive, walled-garden-type console. This is quite the departure from the strong PC master race ethos that used to prevail. Really shows how times have evolved. Why would anyone prefer fewer options?

Having a single main type for a console experience specifically is not a walled garden.

You’d still be able to run games on any random PC, Valve would just make sure that a single baseline works for more casual folks who don’t want to mess with any of that stuff.

Realistically, a lot of the ‘PC gaming experience’ things don’t make sense for a console-style experience. Nobody wants to be fiddling with their drivers or config files on their TV with a controller.

I think it being Linux and open is why they don’t (at least I ) care. Most PC gaming is forced to be behind Microsofts operating system and that’s what valve is getting away from. Them using Linux as a base just earns em alot of props because that means it’s only a “walled-garden” for those unwilling to learn Linux. It’s also a bonus for those afraid of PC gaming, steam OS acts as a safety net and makes it easier to get into it without the baggage of windows.
