This is a continuation from a post I made last night.
My car is a 98 Ford Expedition with a 5.4L engine. Yesterday, I added an entire 5-quart bottle of 5W-30 oil following advice from my mechanic that the oil was not even registering on the dipstick. I checked with the dipstick hours later, and the oil level is way above max.
Realizing now the foolishness of that, I scheduled an oil change at an auto shop exactly 1.1 miles from my house. Will my car survive the journey, or should I not take any chances at all and have it towed?
Do you have a socket wrench? Just drain it. Take out the drain plug from the oil pan, let the oil drain into a milk jug or paint can or bucket if you have a jack. If you use a clean container, you can put SOME of the oil back in if you drain too much. Why pay for a tow when you can fix it for free.
