This is a continuation from a post I made last night.
My car is a 98 Ford Expedition with a 5.4L engine. Yesterday, I added an entire 5-quart bottle of 5W-30 oil following advice from my mechanic that the oil was not even registering on the dipstick. I checked with the dipstick hours later, and the oil level is way above max.
Realizing now the foolishness of that, I scheduled an oil change at an auto shop exactly 1.1 miles from my house. Will my car survive the journey, or should I not take any chances at all and have it towed?
Nah he didn’t do that - I made that conclusion on my own. Someone suggested adding a bit of a time and taking frequent dipstick readings - that would’ve been better.
