The Saints are currently sitting at 71 million OVER the salary cap for next season. And almost every single player has guaranteed money.
They have to get under the cap before the start of the league year in March. And being that far in the hole possibly means they’d be willing to deal expensive players away in a Brock Osweiler-type trade.
Michael Thomas, Alvin Kamara, Ryan Ramczyk, Andrus Peat, Cesar Ruiz, Erik McCoy, Carl Granderson, and Cam Jordan could all be up for grabs; and they all equal upgrades and possible future draft capital.
- Michael Thomas: Will be 31 in March
- Alvin Kamara: Will be 29 before training camp
- Ryan Ramczyk: Will be 30 in April
Etc
Ron doesn’t get a lot right, but I do agree with his overarching philosophy that younger is better and older players generally aren’t a good signing.
30 is pretty meaningless for good O lineman, they play well into their mid to late 30s. That being said, I haven’t follow Ramczyk much lately and don’t know if he’s good or not.
The Saints do this every year.
