Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Let’s go Washington!
The truth:
he’s an energetic and loud black man, while the majority of owners are old white men who think a loud black man = angry black man. So the processes around becoming a HC are already not in his favor.
HC is a different skill set than coordinator. Most coordinators who get promoted to HC fail.
Etc
Ron doesn’t get a lot right, but I do agree with his overarching philosophy that younger is better and older players generally aren’t a good signing.
Bruce Allen never seemed to understand: you don’t build lines through 1st round picks. John Dorsey and Brett Veach and John Schneider and Howie Roseman - all exceptional roster builders - understand how to build lines with a collection of picks, free agents, and prospects. If you have a high pick and can afford to take a stud tackle or edge, sure! But that’s one or two spots out of 9.
It takes 1-2 years tops to build quality lines. That’s proven over and over by quality GMs who needed to rebuild their lines.
The Bengals eschewed drafting Penei Sewell for Ja’Marr Chase. Their potential HoF QB can’t stay healthy in part due to a leaky OL.
If we keep our high first round pick, I think we have to draft OL if the right guy is available.
