When Pascal got hurt and Bruno led the team to victory. He put up like 30-ish points and guarded RGV’s leading scorer, Walter lemon jr, who was a speedy PG. I only got to see photos of the parade in Mississauga. I thought the recap was the best thing that a young Blake Murphy had written to that point. Blake and RR weren’t so established at that point but 905 was so small and underrepresented that I think Blake got more access to the team than he did to the raptors. He wrote a great description of the vibe and players in the locker room.
A lot of people make fun of 905 and won’t watch it but I think it helped Blake’s writing and b-ball iq. Watching a bad player struggle can be more instructive than watching a good player make the game look easy imo.
I know the casuals will be like “wtf is this shit” but this 905 team was incredibly well balanced and COMPLETELY bought-in for one reason - Jerry Stackhouse.
From top to bottom this team had very solid talent. Running out lineups with Brady (your favorite Queen’s MBA), Sheehey, Bruno, Toupane, and Tavares. Even had some hometown love with Negus on the roster.
Showed how much mentality matters in the G-League, because there are far better players that would’ve failed in this situation.
Stack would always keep them humble, but celebrate them by leaving the card with one of the white boys when the team goes downtown.
There’s an open gym episode about Stack that covers a bit of the experience. It’s very grounded and allows for your mind to reset and appreciate and respect basketball and the life of the players. It’s great to recenter your expectations when the average comment/content today is just about being inflammatory.
Exactly
I’m somewhere in between the casuals and the true fans because I def remember this happening but I didn’t pay any attention to it but was still happy we won something.
