Your laptop will shut itself off before any of its major components reach dangerous temperatures. Other options, if you are okay with digging into it a bit, is repasting your laptop. Also try not to use it on bed or carpet as much as possible, if you can use it on a table or other flat surface so the fans can pull in as much fresh, unobstructed air as possible.

It doesn’t look like its meant to be removed, my guess is it’s an anti-glare film. Pick it it gently with your fingernail and if it lifts easily go for it, if not just leave it
