  • The best thing to do, is to stop worrying about what other people think. They don’t matter right now.

The 50 media people who vote for MVP don’t matter either. That award isn’t the goal, winning a Superbowl is (and in the last 25 years only two QBs won that award and went on to win a Superbowl).

The only thing that matters is that we get to enjoy watching an elite QB on our team and he’s only in his second year as well. This can go on for a while.

If he keeps playing like that, people will have a hard time denying it. They can give Hurts the MVP and in the future people will laugh at that and say Purdy was robbed. It’s fine. We’ve seen that in sports before.

  • PPG alone can be misleading.

For example, against the Bengals one of their scoring drives was a single pass play for a 17 yard TD after a Purdy pick. The defense was put in a bad spot there. Hard to blame them for that one.

In the last game, the defense was only responsible for one drive that ended in a FG, the other FG was from a long kickoff and the TD was a pick six (usually you’d ignore that, but you still had it as 13)

On the flip side, if you’re trailing in a game and need the ball back, a long drive with a lot of 3rd conversions that kills the clock but doesn’t end in points is still bad defense.

If you really want to see how the defense is doing you need to look at more than PPG.

We all saw in the last two games before the bye the tackling was all of a sudden an issue and the pass rush wasn’t getting there. Dre was playing hurt, the bye really helped him get back. Adding Chase also made a huge difference, and Wilks made some adjustments as well as others already mentioned.

I assumed it will take Wilks time to get up to speed with this defense being an outsider coming in, just like it took Saleh a long time. With the way our offense is looking, if Wilks can keep the defense in the top 5 they should be unstoppable.

  • No, it’s not a no-brainer. I’d say it’s not even an option, even if Saleh is available, unless Wilks gets another head coaching opportunity.

We were all frustrated by the defense during that 3 game losing streak, but they weren’t really that bad, just not as great as we expected them to be. They’re still a top 5 defense and they’re back to dominating now.

Thinking it’s a bad defense and we need to get rid of Wilks is like thinking Purdy is a system QB. It’s a narrative that isn’t based on facts. Maybe people are saying that in NY media, but they’ve been out of touch with everything 49ers for a while…

  • For me it’s Cowboys, Packers, Toots, Giants.

Meeting teams multiple times in the playoffs, especially when the NFC was dominant, means more than 2 regular season games.

The Chiefs and the Eagles are teams I don’t like and not just because we lost to them in big games in recent years, but it’s not a rivalry. It’s just shitty fanbases.

I understand the Bay Area rivalry with the Raiders for many, but they were an LA team when I became a 49ers fan in the late 80s. I’d see their fans around the bay but they were irrelevant this whole time. They were only really good when Jerry went to play for them. I’d say the Raiders aren’t on even my radar.
