  • It also remains uncertain who will help guide Tepper. The Panthers haven’t given general manager Scott Fitterer any assurances that he will be retained, league sources said, though Carolina has intimated to some around the NFL that it would like to keep Fitterer. Even so, league sources believe Fitterer’s future remains up in the air.

The headline is completely obvious since we’re 1 year removed from doing the exact same search. But this quote is the more interesting story.

It’s also completely frustrating. It’s ridiculous that we would consider keeping Fitterer at this point. Even if Tepper wants to hand wave the Rhule years because Rhule had final say of the roster, Fitterer’s first year without Rhule has been an unmitigated disaster. Stripped the offense before drafting a QB, signed a weak FA class, and already got to be a part of the process to hire a HC who got fired 11 games in. The dude gets bodied in almost every trade deal and his draft classes are a big swing and miss.

  • I’m not really defending Tepper here, but there is a line for a reporter when it comes to making the story about themselves. Scott has spent the past day after the press conference talking about him personally being upset because he was ignored.

It’d be different if he was only writing about how ridiculous it was for Tepper held a press conference and did not give the press in large a legitimate chance to ask their questions. Instead he’s been inserting himself into the story and it’s a little eye rolling.

It should almost be expected that if you write a harsh story about someone that they’re not going to play along with you moving forward. Not to say that Scott shouldn’t do that (he should keep Teppers feet to the fire), but it’s not a surprise that Tepper isn’t going to want to interact with him. Not many people would.

  • Media literacy is a big problem. We’re only a few months removed from literally everyone involved with this franchise gushing over Bryce.

It’s possible these reporters heard we wanted Stroud when we thought we were going to #2 and are just stuck on the idea that we wanted him the whole time. But everyone here in Carolina has made it clear they wanted Young and jumped at the opportunity to get him when the Texans went silent.

  • A lot of coaches don’t pass on opportunities when so few are given. Especially hot coordinators who are potential first-time HCs. They risk a less productive year causing teams to overlook them the next cycle.

And the one good thing Tepper does is throw his money around, so guys are gonna be interested as long as he keeps that up.
