We can never know but it does seem very deep.
It’s heartbreaking. He seemed to be doing so much better with the sports psychologist. My guess is his issues require deeper psychological help than a sport psychologist usually provides. His new coping skills disintegrated under the stress of the finals. Bring in the serious help ASAP

Oh my! Thank you! This is so wonderful. I was asking for the “top” part of your answer but it was great fun reading all of it.
It strikes me that for women there is consistency in the champions across singles and doubles. That seems less so for men. My not-stats impression has always been that singles and doubles are very different for the men and also that the men withdraw from doubles when they are doing well in the singles arm of a tournament. Perhaps that happens less amongst the women.
