  • I’ve seen comments on Youtube about his contract coinciding with the first out in Carr’s contract, and the reason he’s not flipping out is because Carmichael likely loses his job after the season, and he gets one more shot with a new OC… I think there could be some validity to that, especially since they’re going to want to keep the defense rolling. I think it could work - it would give the front office the continuity they wanted from the Sean Payton Era, and introduce a new offensive scheme (hopefully from one of the fresh new minds) to reinvigorate the offense. I’m not particularly a fan of him as a head coach, but maybe with a new OC he can make it work.

I will always go back to what Cam Jordan told Rich Eisen when asked the question “What’s it like playing for a defense-minded head coach as opposed to an offense-minded one?” Cam replied “When the defense wins, we don’t run it back.” That’s troubling to me, and might really be the underlying issue why this high-powered offense can’t seem to get right.

  • I think the best route is to spy mobile QBs… Sacrifice the 2 high safety look to bring somebody down to play that low middle zone that’s vacated by man coverage, but with the intention to spy more than cover. To me, the biggest openings for those rush plays are created when all of the defense are downfield in coverage. Sometimes they do have a linebacker spying, but Pete Werner and Demario Davis aren’t quite quick enough to limit the damage most of the time. You’d need somebody pretty quick, like Jordan Howden (4.49), Lonnie Johnson Jr. (4.52), or Alontae Taylor (4.36)… Somewhat similar to how LSU utilized Harold Perkins last year.

Speaking of… The Saints will likely be in the market for a linebacker in 2025… I’d love to see Perkins play the Demario Davis role, especially if DD gets a team-friendly extension (his contract is through 2024) and can mentor him.

  • I like the idea of Jayden Daniels… His average rank is 63rd overall, and I doubt the Saints take a QB that early… They still have so many positions that they need to start getting younger at, I don’t know if they’ll be drafting another QB in the early rounds for a while… I think the best option is to look for late round guys who have a ton of college experience… Guys like Brock Purdy (4 years), Tyson Bagent (5 years), Taylor Heinicke (4 years)… While they may not be game changers, they are solid guys who can process, execute, and stay calm under duress. But you also run the chance of getting a Desmond Ridder (4 years)… I’m not sure if its the Atlanta offense or Ridder, but one of those things is pretty bad.
