  • I agree that animation isn’t nearly the most important part of an animated show. Its not an afterthought & that’s not what op said, just not a huge deal. Like i’ve never thought that invincible’s animation was very good, but I’m still really interested in it – then on the other side is something like demon slayer, which I thought had beautiful animation but a story I couldn’t get into so I dnf’ed. Imo an animated show is the same as any other show in that the story is the most important thing about it

  • I feel like some kind of therapy (doesn’t have to be in an armchair, but if he talked to Amber or someone) could be really helpful to Mark after what he went through, exploding the bodies of hundreds of people. I don’t have any quotes or anything but it’s been my impression that he’s expressing some irrational guilt over what happened that could probably be alleviated by therapy

I dont WANT therapy arc to happen cuz I feel like he’s getting through his emotions in a more interesting way rn, but that’s what I’d say if I wanted to fix this kid

Also, is that true about WW2 veterans? Ik you’re just kidding about them being “Oh yes my war is over!” after going through battle, but some of them just don’t have PTSD? Or less severe PTSD or what? I feel like a person can’t shoot another person without being broken mentally in some capacity

  • I was actually kinda concerned watching that – especially after the first scene of the 2nd season felt like it went on for a worryingly long time – that it meant that Mark was going to become a less heroic/virtuous character. Like he doesn’t really wanna talk about it with anyone, even his buds at the burger mart can’t get him to talk about it, he just wants to go back to hero work, etc. Especially now with the Viltrumites telling him to take up Nolan’s post (and Nolan telling him that he needs to start fighting to kill), it seems like all the conditions are aligning for him to abandon his morals (‘conditions’ including no therapy). But I didn’t read the comics, so I have no idea what’s gonna happen

Personally, I feel very attached to the characters and I’m not into a lot of nerdy stuff so its really fun to get excited about goofy bs like “Viltrum” and powerscaling and the cool tech and (weirdly, especially) the demon detective and the backgrounds of the characters – plus, just from the first episode when Omni-man killed the guardians of the globe, I was hooked. It was so exciting and uncertain trying to figure out why he would do something like that. It wasn’t even just the subversion of the genre (even though I kinda believe it to be), but just the massive narrative upset that it was. I love omni man. His inclusion in the show somehow makes the show feel like to me more like a real story than a ‘take on a superhero origin’

Eventually, I just liked it because of Mark – he has so much heart and charm, and I can sympathize with him and root for him so easily. His relationship with his dad is interesting and painful. I personally think he’s cute with Amber in a couple scenes in the first season and all of them in the 2nd – I remember one on their study date, when she picked up a comic book or something and said she’d read it to show she was interested? I just thought they were sweet.

I also personally find that the characters lie in this weird, interesting gray space between ‘believable’ and ‘what the fuck’ cartooniness, and it gives me a strange feeling to watch that I haven’t felt watching anything else. That’s not so much a plus, I don’t know what that is

The story kept me on my feet too. It was never too slow, and there were always a few plotlines going on and intersecting. Its just fun

I also really like superhero stories and the batman has been watched and marvel is shitting the bed rn so who else to turn to

  • That’s a really good question. If the marks in all the universes are completely genetically the same, then what made such a big difference? If I was the writer I would make it cuz debbie was less present in his life and less of a force of good and humanity. I think she’s a huge part of the reason why Mark is dedicated to the ppl in his life and determined to help ppl in need even despite his dad’s wishes, like in the episode in season 1 with titan

  • I haven’t touched the comics but I’m a big fan of the show and I definitely fall into ur camp. I would trade like 5 minutes of Donald slowly typing in his login information, then cecil’s login information, then watching a video of a scene we’ve watched like 2 different times – I’d trade that for development ANYWHERE else

But Donald is great. I’m glad they brought him back as a half man, unsure of his own humanity
