  • No the “point” is that in any given game, fast travel is a system that is either there or it isn’t. Particularly in a single player games experience. That’s a feature that’s expected, and locking it behind a paywall, even if it’s listed as a feature only added by dlc, feels shitty.

It would be like releasing a game, and charging for a pause menu. Some games don’t pause, some do. To lock that basic feature behind a payment is silly, greedy, wrong.

I feel the same way when I go to some gas stations here. Everywhere has the lowest grade on the left. Then you get this shady AF shell station or something, and the high grade is the left most one. You KNOW they’re doing that to catch people unaware. Is it illegal? No. Does it instill any confidence in your business? Hell no.

  • The quantity you need for gold to be as useful as it’s going to be in whatever application short of aesthetic/monetary value is so low that it just doesn’t make sense for its value to be tied to its actual use. So little gold is used for “real” applications that if that was driving its valuation , it’d be probably 10% as valuable as it is. That’s what people mean when they say it isn’t useful.

  • I pointed out in another post that yes, please, do what you can as an individual. That means, when your car reaches its natural end, then yeah, go for an EV. The point I’m aiming for though is that if each and every person switched to EVs overnight, it’s not going to have the impact we need it to to arrest the carbon emissions problems we have.

We have megacorps that don’t have a reason to limit their production. We have countries seemingly actively working to make shit worse. EVs aren’t a magic bullet, they’re not something that we need to be quite so aggressively pursuing when there are other very real things that we can do to make an actual impact.

  • There are a TON of issues with EVs as a first line approach to emissions. Manufacturing emissions is a big one, admittedly that one will come down as infrastructure gets up to date with what we have already for vehicle manufacturing.

A much more important factor, however, is the fact that the individual’s contribution to emissions is negligible. It doesn’t really matter what we, as private citizens, do when corporations or billionaires produce so much carbon emissions. When Taylor Swift’s JET ALONE produces more carbon annually than 1000 individuals driving their car daily, it doesn’t matter one iota what kind of vehicle the average joe drives.

We need infrastructure, and we need governance. Pointing the finger at regular guys and saying you’re the problem because you drive a combustion engine is folly at best.

There’s a huge gulf between what this comic says (essentially housing, a basic human necessity) should be free, and what you’re attacking (everything is free). One of those is ABSOLUTELY doable. We live in a world of gross excess, if we stop arguing over how to kill people more efficiently, stop worrying about printing more money, we could give people a small home. Of course someone still has to pay/work for it, no one’s stupid lol.

Even if it’s a “shoebox apartment” it’s better than streets. It’s one of the basic requirements for life. And who’s to say that provided home has to be your only option?

  • Garden hose is a bit different. Bacteria can get in through the hoses open end, and it’s really hard to completely dry out the inside, so it’s just a microbe fest inside there. The issue isn’t so much the plumbing, straight from the spigot is… Well, still a bit worse because it’s outside but should be ok. It’s the hose that’s the problem. Beyond that, yeah water in any tap inside should be essentially the same, barring filters after the plumbing.

Edit: just thought, some houses may use a grey water recycling system for, say, running the toilet and shower. I imagine that’s rare enough that if it applies to you, you probably already know, but… Well, ya know.
