First off, why is McDermott completely incapable of just calling a normal defense when we’re in crucial moments? It’s like his brain hits a switch and he thinks “play scared and pray the other team loses the game.”
Second, and more importantly - we all just watched our Head Coach tell our elite, superstar QB “I trust a coin flip more than you.” Imagine that we lost the coin flip and Josh never saw the field - our HC knew that was a possibility and was totally fine with it, and his actions communicated that to the team.
That’s a fire-able offense on its own, not to mention that these types of decisions are fairly common with him. His scared, passive coaching has cost us so many times this season, not to mention past seasons as well.
If any of you are still defending this guy’s job, you gotta tell me what you see that I’m missing.
“Fire McD,” Yes.
“bring back Leslie as DC.” No thanks. He was also too passive.
I’m sick of watching Josh lead game winning touchdown drives with under 2 minutes to go, only to KNOW that we’re going to lose.
I want to be clear - I don’t “think” we’re going to lose. I don’t “worry” that we’re going to lose. I know that we are going to lose, and calmly accept that guaranteed factual truth.
We have a HC who is completely incapable of managing crucial moments in close games, and who has demonstrated as much repeatedly. We waited 20 years for a franchise QB, and if anyone with power in that building has any respect for our elite superstar QB, they need to make the hard call.
Fire McDermott.
Taking off my homer hat, it’s likely due to the fact that the Bengals are currently trending up while we seem to be imploding
I said this in another thread - but it blows my mind that our offense nailed the Kincaid and Torrence picks yet still look worse.
This is another reason why I’m against the narrative that we should fire Dorsey mid-season. Whether or not you think he’s “the guy,” bringing in someone mid-season is going to be a temporary step back no matter what. Barring absolutely drastic circumstances, you don’t make that change unless you think your season is over, and ours is not.
I don’t think we’d give up whatever it costs, but out of pure curiosity I want to know what Denver would want for Surtain.
If it’s reasonable, I don’t hate putting Tre on the back burner and moving forward with a young, elite CB.
When I think of the top coaches in the league - Andy Reid, Nick Sirianni, Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay - I can’t see them punting 3 times on 4th and short from the other side of the field with an elite superstar dual threat QB and a chance to close the game on their own terms.
We also got really lucky with a future HoF center deciding to false start twice in a row. McD and the defense actually let them get closer.
