I have one dead red subpixel in the upper-right, outside of the 16:9 area on my LE. I’m waiting to see how other people’s RMA experiences go, whether they get a full replacement or a screen swap, and whether the replacements still have dead pixels or get swapped to Samsung panels.
I figure we have a year warranty to submit an RMA, so not in a huge rush. It helps that 90% of games are 16:9 only and the dead pixel just ends up in the black border.
If you don’t care about the LE colors, you may as well avoid it to save $30 and be guaranteed to have a Samsung screen, which had a much lower chance of issues.
Rooting for Samsung then! Would be great to force Valve to avoid BOE and not have to deal with panel lottery, though it’s too late for the already produced decks.
I dunno. I probably should return it, but I’m just imagining going through multiple returns and still not getting a perfect one. Also theoretically there will be replacement screens available eventually, so I could just swap the panel myself, potentially for a Samsung one…
Because “limited” = beta test for an alternative screen supplier.
I’ve seen one or two reports of dead pixels on Samsung panels, but not to the extent of the BOE panels.
Seems like it was a beta test for BOE panels since all of the other models are Samsung. It’s a bit disappointing that Valve wasn’t more transparent about the fact that it’s more of a “beta” version than a “limited” version.
I think the OLED screens in general are a great upgrade. The LE in particular though is a bit disappointing, since it seems like it was more of a beta test for BOE screens, without really informing buyers that they were paying extra for a beta test, not just the unique coloring.
Usually companies put a hold on your credit card when cross-shipping a replacement, which gets removed once they receive the returned device.
