Yeah I didn’t rate him at all either, and it definitely started off a lot slower, but by the end I was properly into the story of season 2. It’s a really shame as like you said season 1 was incredible, they just didn’t have the same budget for S2. I would have liked to see more as we would have had a different actor and it never really got finished.

Yeah there were multiple times when the allies could have pushed Germany over before they started steamrolling. When they remilitarised the Rhineland, as you said when they occupied the Sudetenland, and even when they invaded Poland.

France started pushing into Germany once war was first declared and there was basically nothing in front of them. Most of the tanks etc were in Poland. If they had continued pushing then it might have all ended there. Instead they pulled back to the Maginot line and the rest is history.

To counter this I used to visit some factories for a big contract manufacturer in the UK. They would often make say lasagne for the supermarkets and for the “premium” brands. Whilst they were all made in the same place, the “premium” brands products had much better quality ingredients in them and different ratios of the good stuff (say meat) to filler (say pasta sheets).

For some things it’s the exact same materials, but for many it’s different. You have to do blind taste tests to see which ones you prefer.

I find the opposite with some hobbies. If you buy a cheap acoustic guitar it’s going to be horrible to play and will probably sound crap. That might discourage you from continuing. More expensive guitars have a much better resale value too, so you’d probably be out of pocket for less if you buy a nice one and sell it again than if you bought a crap one and no one else wanted to buy it.

Yeah ignore the hate. I really don’t get what that other poster could possibly be missing. LTS versions are where it’s at anyway. I’ve been loving pop and am looking forward to cosmic (when it’s ready). Like you say with all the kernel and libraries updated it’s totally fine to stay on the LTS.

The expansion is very good too if you haven’t played it yet. Luckily my memory isn’t the best so when I managed to replay the game after finally picking up the DLC I got to rediscover many parts of the game.

Yeah the article content really doesn’t seem as bad as the momentum folks are making it out to be, and you raise the salient point that this messaging is speaking to the groups of voters who labour need to bring over to win.

I personally would like to see a few more lefty policies over the next year, but grandstanding and promising the world means nothing if they lose the next election. I get why Starmer has been playing it safe this way, and I get why people are sometimes disappointed with it, but they are in it to win it and that’s a very good thing.

The country is in a real mess and we simply need successive Labour governments to start the long road to recovery. We often talk about how damaging the polarization of politics has become, so reaching across the divide to try and bring voters over shouldn’t be demonised.

I think this is a really great point. A lot of the Linux community really like distrohopping and running bleeding edge systems, but if you want to just use your machine to get stuff done you can’t go wrong with the LTS versions of stable distros.

Pop 22.04 has been rock solid for me and I won’t be switching to cosmic until the issues are ironed out, my work laptop will be staying on Ubuntu 22.04 (with pop-shell) until the next LTS has been out for a while.

Not having to worry about whether a rolling upgrade will bork your system is really nice. I think we should be suggesting LTS to all newbies as standard as it’s a much smoother experience.

To OP: Pop is a great distro and the tiling window manager it comes with is absolutely fantastic. If you want a beginner friendly system which gets out of your way and let’s you actually use your computer it’s a fantastic choice. Getting used to the way gnome/pop-shell works and the workflows takes a little getting used to at first, but once it clicks it’s really hard to think of using anything else.

Top tip: if you hit an issue with pop and googling for pop solutions isn’t working, 99% of the time just search for Ubuntu and you’ll find plenty of info about it.

Starmer isn’t going to be able to do much to affect any ceasefire or literally anything in the conflict whilst in opposition, but if the Tories squeeze out another 5 years the UK will be in a dire dire state. Replacing the thermal paste is essential. It dries out over time and stops conducting heat effectively. Cleaning the fans and radiator fins is important too. Takes an hour or so if you don’t know what you’re doing so shouldn’t take long. I’ve kept my laptop going for years by doing that every 2 years or so.
