  • I got to thinking last night…scary I know. We see JF continuing to take advantage of zone defenses, last night’s game winner to DJ is another example. It seems to me that he struggles in man to man when the defense tends to be bringing pressure with exotic blitzes. Am I crazy to think that a team’s lack of separation from the skills position is exactly why a QB struggles in man to man. Isn’t that why a QB would hold the ball and sometimes struggle since he doesn’t see or believe his WR will win the 50/50 or get open? Isn’t the cure for this better WRs (i.e. MHJ or another WR1)? I get the meatball take - Fields bad…fire everyone and Mickey Mouse for any reason, just looking for a nuisance discussion.

  • Early season plan was for JF to play behind the full strength OL using pocket passing principles to take advantage of his great deep ball strength. Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth as they say…our OL came out with the likes of Patrick and Whitehair starting and Carter subbing in. With Teven and Davis unavailable.
They got worked. JF was abused with an OL not able to provide a clean pocket. He goes down with injury and in steps Bagent. Finally Getz changed the plan and went slant heavy to take advantage of Bagent’s quick trigger but lesser deep ball accuracy. It worked….mostly. The OL held up and provided a clean pocket when not asked to do too much. Now enter this week. Full OL strength and JF at QB. Let’s see how it goes - I expect a blend of both playbook styles depending on how well our OL keeps the pocket clean for JF. It may depend on just how healthy that thumb is too.

  • Trade #1 overall in a DJ like deal - getting that team’s best young EDGE or OT/G along with swapping 1st 2024, Pick up 2024 2nd along with 2025 1st and 4th.

In that one trade you either fix the DLine or lack of depth on OL. In the least you push Jones to be better and relegate Whitehair to cut city. Use the newly acquired 1st to draft what you didn’t get above - best Edge or OL.

With your own pick, you draft MHJ at 5.

Newly acquired 2nd - you take the best MF Center in the draft. Period. Fix this position for the next 5-8 years finally.

Draft in the following order by best available- ILB, NT, DT, EDGE, G, OT

My philosophy is roll with these QBs and build the team for the long term. If after filling out the OL and skills with bonafide Pro Bowlers that you still have a problem at QB…pull a trade and get a proven Vet. See Stafford, Brees, Manning, Brady, etc Trades/FA that won Superbowls. They were the LAST piece not the ONLY piece on a team.
