Obviously divisive but I do think Moira needs a rework. Moira mains say she’s fine as she is as she punishes bad aim and positioning as a pubstomper but loses that usefulness when people have game sense. I don’t agree with the sentiment that a character should only be viable at certain ranks, it goes against everything the devs have said about overwatch; all heroes should be viable at every rank. Mercy also has a low skill floor for new players (as aim is secondary to her playstyle) but her kit allows for a lot skill expression (movement and res). Playing Moira in high ranks is very one-dimensional and there should be some other benefit to her that would make moira a reasonable pick in certain situations over other heroes.
Moira is a relic of 6v6 when you had people grouped together with high sustain and tickle damage to force people out of safe zones and punish dive, but other people do her job better. Kiriko, Illari, Bap all do what she does but they have other benefits to offer the team. Obviously she’s extremely difficult to balance as if you buff her too much she dominates low ranks but number changes do nothing with her performance in higher ranks, which I think is a problem. I have a sneaking suspicion that the devs are still thinking of ways to make changes to her, they’ve said in the past that they always try new stuff with her but they like her gameplay flow too much to make any huge changes. They’ll need to look at her orbs if they actually want to make an impact on her playstyle and provide more value to the team because her fade and ult are fine as is. Could also be slight changes to her left click to reward better aim (have two “cones” in her beam, one with more damage or something) but that would be another challenge for devs to be able to show the enemy what’s happening.
Reaper should also get a rework, similar to moira the playstyle is very one dimensional and other heroes do his job better. He’s a flanker but extremely loud and easy to see coming from a mile away, I don’t know how good this idea would be but providing some some of “stealth” option for him post-teleport would be interesting, like a speed boost or sound reduction. Right now it’s teleport, ambush, disengage or hide, ambush, ult.
I’m joining the choir to say that counter swapping has been a part of the game pretty much since the start, why would people be doing it for years otherwise? Certain characters have very hard counters and it would be extremely unfair to have to lock in your choice, especially if the other team pick characters you can’t do much with against them. Sym or Brig against a Pharmercy in the skybox? Have fun hiding in cover the entire game and waiting until they drop down to get maybe one or two hits.
6v6 also had a lot of problems I think people forget about, double shield ring a bell? nothing ever died and there was so much cc in the game it was boring as hell, I don’t actually want 6v6 back I think it would make the game less dynamic.
You’re also only 1 of 5 people against 5 beam or melee characters, your team is able to swap to counter them you know, right? Also Moira does not counter D.Va, you can remove half her kit buy sucking up her orbs…
I occillate between Moira and Ana. I find Moira fun because she’s very self sufficient and I love being super slippery, Ana more so for how satisfying being good at her is, a good Ana dominates matches and can be pretty scary
