  • We say that Wr are more valuable because of longevity and styles of offenses, but I don’t think the gap is quiet as large as you make it out to be, especially when rbs are receiving threats. Whose more valuable to the jets hall or Wilson? Because it looks like halls more effective and will be there longer at this rate. What about the 49ers? is Debo more valuable than McCaffery? Michael Thomas had 2 great years, but Alvin Kamaras been far more important to the saints staying competitive. The vikings offense was not the same this year without dalvin cook even with JJ on the field. Aj Brown wasnt a top 15 Wr in Tennessee and was there half the time Henry has been. And count the numerous WRs who leave the team that drafted them by the time they’re 27, hill, diggs, brown, obj… the list goes on. We devalue RBs for alot of different reasons, but I think those reasons have to many outliers to be correct. to say they last longer with a team or have more versatility or are less replacable works well in theory but not in practice. They can be neutralized easier, touch the ball less than the best RBs and are just as likely to be off the team in 5 years as a Rb is, albeit more likely because of money then injury.

Barkley was taughted as this dual threat Rb who you could design an offense around. Coming out of college he was supposed to be the system, more than a RB he was an offensive weapon who in theory could transcend an offense. MHJ is supposed to be this same thing right, just as a WR in this pass first nfl. The comparison lives in that regardless of the offensive weapons position they can not single handedly save an offense. Their value is equal in that MHJ will have the same frustrating 5-6 year carrer here in NY that Barkley has had before he goes and gets traded or signs else where. So if you’re saying a WR intrinsically has more value, I’m saying that the time spent on this team is what counts and most likely that and the impact he and Barkley have on Ws gained would be the same.

  • Whether or not a WR is more important than a RB is kind of moot. The reality is until we have a qb and an oline, drafting skill positions in the first round is just lipstick on this pig. The comparison is more about the decision to go with the “generational” skill player over the glaring need at QB we made once, and hopefully dont make again. Chosing a wr over a qb in our situation would be a mistake.

Look at the jets, Wilson is a certified game breaker, but how many wins has he added? The Qb play is so bad around him He’s already talking about wanting to be out. We’d be setting MHJ up for a very similar situation.
