I got coerced into attending the Youth Rally preceding Jerry Falwell’s “Washington for Jesus” rally on the mall. For two weeks they prayed we would be blessed with perfect weather. Sat in unprotected seats in RFK stadium, where the collected water from upstairs poured over us for three hours. They kicked the event off by thanking God for caring about us so much, it had baptized us with its Holy Water from above—forgetting they had been praying for a rain-free event for the previous 2 weeks. I was ready to leave after those remarks, but had to stay until the end so my date could see the closing act, the favorite of all the kiddies for Jesus, the 700 Club-approved Oak Ridge Boys. Later, I learned that the reason God had pissed on us for three hours, was because the pastor at my date’s local church, who had school bussed us in to see “Aquatic Aerobics for Jesus”, had earlier also screwed my date, gotten her pregnant and coerced her into having an abortion. Charming pastor, eh?

We’ve drafted like we’re haunted by the ghost of the secondary, afraid replacing him would piss off the gods. Many on here have been screaming for secondary help in the draft for years. Finally, they get Forbes, but he’s a work in progress . Taylor brought the fire and inspired his teammates to play beyond their talent because he not only preached it, he then went on the field and demonstrated it. That was the last time we had a player capable of that type of leadership. I wish his ghost would go inhabit someone like Forbes. He is capable of being that guy; but not yet able to make it happen on the field-yet.

I still think of RG3; Alex Smith; Wentz and Fitz, every time Howell is anywhere near the concussion tent. Still some questionable officiating. I grudgingly agree with Romo that EB runs away from stuff once it’s working. Run from I - direct snap; RPO like on Howell TD; not 90 yds every pass. They had 2-1 advantage in clock time at the half. Blew it all at start of 4th quarter. Why stop run blitzing? Too many busted throws that could have been catchable. Couple of missed screens. One looked like Curl was going to throw the option but couldn’t find an open guy. Two very lame draw plays. Timing just off by just enough to let Dallas eat you with the sideline turkey. 3 misses on 4th down in a row? Might as well start punting on 3rd down. I see Trent does not appears to have the message about DK. And for a month we have been saying guys are gonna jump the out play if they do it every 1st down. Sure enough, EB reverts to calling the sideline out play and they immediately jump it for pick-6. Hey, Gibson didn’t fumble, at least. Still should’ve kept Patterson; decent receiver. Our league leading tight end, Jordan Reed, RETired out of concussion fears. Fears warranted if he thought they could close the ocean to search for his gold chain, evidentially given up to Poseidon in the midst of Reed’s jet ski frolicking.

There are statistical methods for determining the reliability of correlations as statistical predictors, as opposed to mere “coincidences”. It’s difficult to know without knowing sample size, receiver ability, tipped balls, “hurries”, etc. Really hard to gauge the usefulness of a graph like this without knowing whether ALL variables were taken into account (receiver sucks v. wide open in the end zone; ball tipped after thrown; scramble v. Pocket; etc.). When things like this are not explained in statistical terms, hard to say if they’re garbage or wishful thinking. I think getting a good first half would be an improvement. If we win, convincingly, it stop much of the critique of “the Howellitzer” (great tag, whoever thought of it). Still taking the boys straight up.

EB is actually a game behind us (being from a different time zone than USA ET). So if last week was the gameplan for Dallas (expect fake blitz’ and a reversion to nickel/ten-yards-off-the-line on every Dallas throwing drive), I see no chance we cover a -11 spread against Dallas, AT Dallas. We’ll be down by that at halftime (no telling how ugly the final tab we’ll pay will be); I can’t see us holding Dallas scoreless for a half, much less doing that AND making up -11 against them. Just lose by at least say, maybe, 12 points? Hell, I don’t care what you lose by.

I hoped we’d win; but, no way were we winning by 9 points. As soon as the run works, we quit and pass the rest of the day. Some bad throws today. Or bad routes? Too confusing to tell.
