I am looking at selling my desktop as well. If you were looking at power gaming or more gpu power amd does support usb4 and could use an egpu. Gpd makes the g1 portable epgu but is not upgradable. Maybe someday framework will bring a dpgu system to 13 like they have for the 16.
Im in batch 9. Havent gotten the review info yet.
Im theory is a great idea and i had the exact same thought as a drop in mod or included with future mainboards. I dont think the technology is there yet especially for relatively high watts on current gen amds/intels compared to mba with m2.
Fingers-crossed in the near future. A passively of near silent framework but without huge performance loss or throttling would be a dream come true.
Amd has pretty good efficiency. Framework has talked about releasing a case mod to use an older framework battery into a powerbank. One option is go for rzyen 5 with smaller battery and then if not enough life pick up better battery and use the smaller as a bank. My wife has an 11th gen with smaller battery. I iust ordered a ryzen 7 with bigger battery. The 11th gen with smaller battery isnt great but have seen reviews of the ryzen version with much better life.
My last laptop was a comically oversized gaming laptop (acer predator helio 700). Had a slide keyboard and rgb up the wazoo. Big loud and almost 0 baterry life. The keyboard stopped working in one spot and the battery cant be replaced. Im sick of disposable laptops and want one that can be fixed, upgraded, and customized. Now with career, kids, etc wanted a much more professional laptop with mobility. With the amd igpu it will be able to some light gaming on the side. Fw13 amd was a dream come true. Guess i will repurpose the old laptop into a desktop for a family member.
Yup. 100% counts.
The phawks, eta prime and notebookcheck.net all have good info on the amd version can do. I posted a similiar question a few days and those resources were suggested to me. The 780m is a much more capable igpu then i realized. Even cyberpunk 2077 with lower res and settings can run. The 13 ich is 60 hz and slow grey to grey so i wouldnt plan any competitive gaming especially fps.
Green. Awaiting it.
Sort of goes against framework ideology but the ryzen 5 ships with the smaller battery, if battery life is a deal breaker you could order the bigger battery. You could then use the smaller battery as a battery bank once that module gets released.
Congrats mate! After the 14 gen and next amd mainboards should be able to pick up 13th gen or ryzen option for pretty cheap. My wife is still rocking an 11th gen intel from initial framework offering and been great.
This is the way
Keep feeding me hope! Batch 9 is getting closer. Love the graphs.
Getting closer! Batch 9 trying to cope. I saw some posts with framework really wanting to get all orders out before new year. This might mean they are able to ramp up for December
Agree with the rest. Clean fans. May need to repaste. Could try firmware updates. Even my wife’s 11th gen doesnt do that. If you can wait another year or two, intel 14th gen are looking promising especially with xe gains. Amd will have an 8000 series that should continue to make gains. However, you do you. At the end of the day, your money. Would never fault anyone for investing more into framework.
Ha! When the game loads and textures are still present you win.
Amd or 13th gen both support usb4/thunderbolt respectively. You are good. Look up elevated systems on youtube. They tested egpu on amd.
A fellow batch 9er here. Not soon enough.
Apples to oranges. With mac it will be quieter, better battery and m3 will probably excel in some productivity tasks. For framework you are getting a laptop that every single piece can be upgraded, replaced by the user. I was going to go with macbook. I was waiting for an m3. Then, my current laptop Acer predator, the keyboard failed in one area and battery needed replacing at the same the ryzen version was announced. I couldnt fix the keyboard and the battery is glued down. This sold me on framework. My laptop is now basically a desktop. For me, the ryzen framework fits my uses perfectly. Mostly office, home, light gaming. The mac would as well but i like what framework is doing. I like the innovation, the push for user repairability. I also dont have any apple products. I also the options to switch out bezels, tinker, customize it. Framework has survived the first couple of years and kept good on offering newer gen mobos and parts. I am ready to invest in them. The laptops not perfect but is what i am looking for my use case.
Agree. 40. With limited gaming have definitely gone more casual now. Enjoy the experience, escapism, atmosphere more than hardcore gaming. Games like skyrim, starbound, v rising, i play on easier setting to enjoy. Kids, career life hard enough dont need to get repeatedly beat down by a video game. I got wife and kids and boss for that.
Most importantly, enjoy. Screw what others think.
