  • Hard truth, this game ain’t topping the charts and overtaking games like CSGO if it weren’t for the money of the players

That’s because it isn’t overtaking CSGO.
Currently, worldwide the top 5 are Steam Deck, Apex Legends, Lethal Company, Counter Strike 2, Red Dead Redemption 2.

Dota 2 is on place 30.

Actually besides from games, TI 2023 is on par with this year’s Worlds

What’s that even supposed to mean? On par in what?
Viewer numbers? I haven’t checked, but I would be highly surprised if Worlds doesn’t have at least double the viewer numbers.
Quality wise? I wouldn’t know, I never watched Worlds and probably never will.
All I know is TI23 was extremely high quality in production value, compared to basically all the previous TIs.

If you truly don’t care about hats or anything then why aren’t you back on the frozen throne map mod that made dota today?

Not sure who said that they don’t care about cosmetics at all. Most of us just care about the game/gameplay more than skins.
And besides, why should I go back to a 20 year old game when I can just play Dota 2, which is getting more gameplay updates than new skins currently, which is exactly what I want? Your argument doesn’t make any sense.

No, you don’t understand because you’re a freeloader and we don’t complain about your existence at all

Except you clearly do, as you can see with this post.

So quit whining about our whining because we want more, if you enjoy low standards then that’s on you

I would actually argue, that if I value gameplay above skins, that I enjoy and aim for higher standards than you, but whatever floats your boat I guess.

In all honesty, this game wouldn’t last long like so many “FREE” games without the money of the players, get that in your head.

Obviously, and the game is still free. Every penny you decide to spend on this game is completely optional. If you think the game doesn’t deserve your money any more, then don’t spend it on the game.

Sincerely, a Dota+ subscriber, who bought every battle pass since 2014 and this year, for the first time, even got the Aegis Replica.

    The game is free

From 2014 to 2020 we had New Bloom, Diretide and Festivus each year

The way you write this makes it sound like we had 3 events per year, which is just not true.

According to your link we had:

    • 2014: New Bloom
    • 2015: New Bloom
    • 2016: New Bloom
    • 2017: Frostivus, Dark Moon
    • 2018: Frostivus
    • 2019: New Bloom, Frostivus
    • 2020: New Bloom, Diretide
    • 2021: -
    • 2022: Diretide
    • 2023: Frostivus

    Thank you.
It is really mind boggling how this subreddit behaves.

We all saw it coming over the last 5 years though. The subreddit turned more and more into evil shitstorms. Angry mobs for all kinds of things. It used to be that you couldn’t browse the subreddit during the battle pass. Because the battle pass of [current year] is of course always much worse than th e battle pass of [last year]. Valve of course got greedier and doesn’t care about Dota. Dota is on maintenance mode, yada yada yada…
Now the subreddit is even unreadable before and after the battle pass season. Am I just getting too old for this shit? Did our playerbase get replaced by a lot of new people from LoL and other games that have different expectations (getting spoonfed 42 blog posts per week)? Did the behaviour of our playerbase change that much? Why? Because of Corona? Getting older (but more childish?)? Did we just become so entitled because we got spoiled over the years? Is Valve really neglecting Dota? I doubt it. They are certainly communicating more than ever, and the last years we definitely had less updates than in the last few months.

A shame really. I am definitely in search of a new dota community as a replacement for r/dota2

  • Here’s a guide to get more young players:

    • Get rid of a lot of complex mechanics
    • Lower all cooldowns
    • Re-introduce the jungle as a lane option
    • Increase all gold bounties
    • Introduce a seasonal battle pass with premium & free tier and small rewards
    • Lower the health of everything (heroes, creeps, buildings)
    • Pay streamers to promote the game
    • Partner with (TikTok) influencers and introduce branded skins

    There you go.
I doubt the current playerbase (including me) would like that though.
