  • I only caught the 4th quarter yest so I went back rewatched the whole game today and he’s constantly teaching and almost supervising the younger guys on a lot of plays? Almost like he was coaching, pointing out who was open, which play to run, where to position themselves— so I think it’s deliberate that he’s hovering at a 4/5 out of 10 most nights but he’s so carefully watching the new guys especially and the rooks when he’s on the floor and kind of just sees himself as a safety net.

I think he’s mentioned how his teammates know it’s his way of instilling confidence in them— that he’s watching but he’s not gonna kobe and hero ball his way on every possession. Rather, he wants them to know he has confidence they will dig themselves out and he’s there to support them doing it. It makes a lot of sense— like he wants the team to fully know and see in his actions that he considers them equal teammates and they’re not just like random parts that he passes to simply bc he’s forced to and has no choice. Almost like reinforcing that “you guys are my top choice to pass to if it’s the right move and the right play; passing to you and trusting you is not my last resort.”

But your overall point stands- Jimmy will have these games where it’ll be the 4th quarter and I’ll feel like he’s done nothing and I’ll go to the box score to see but how awful he’s been and it’s usually like 17-22 pts and like 4-5 rebs but always feels like 7 pts lol

  • Duncan is a really self aware guy with zero ego. His entire philosophy is just about making literally any changes and improvements to help the team. UD speaks really highly of Duncan’s work ethic, bball iq, and just a complete willingness to improve at literally anything with zero ego.

The neat thing about Duncan’s development and ethos as a player is that despite the contract, he literally seems to mentally keep himself in a healthy place of “I’m still a g league player looking for a contract.” Because he constantly seems to be in that place mentally, he’s always driven to add stuff to his game that makes him valuable (outside of shooting alone). He wants to keep adding stuff to his game so he’s harder to plan for and defend against.

Yes, I’ve listened to too many Duncan “the long shot” podcast eps and am a big Duncan fan lol

  • I have to say my favorite thing about observing jimmy’s play style is he uses the absolute least/optimal amount of energy to accomplish what he’s looking to for each play.

No unnecessary jumping for getting a rebound; he’ll time it just right. no random accelerated sprinting - he’ll slow down asap if he doesn’t need to be running. the effort expended and his calibration is so deliberate and purposeful. Really kind of beautiful to watch.

  • You guys, I really do not fuck with the Celtics in the least bit lol but I am absolutely here for coaches who fire back like this lol it’s how I put it in my pipe, smoked it, and became a Michael Malone stan.

FML, am I now a Mazzulla head?!?? Because if this is what watching the town 4X a week will do, I gotta watch it atleast once lol

Unhinged in the best fucking way; love this for the rest of us who enjoy a spicy coach.
