McDermott starts slowing down half a block from green lights just in case they turn yellow.
He’s the head coach, he doesn’t get to cherry pick which parts of the team he gets credit for, he’s responsible for the whole package. We limped to 13-3 last year with some ugly, lucky wins. We barely got past Miami playing their backup QB, and got absolutely embarrassed by the Bengals at home. We had three good games this year and the rest we’ve pretty much looked exactly like that team that went down in flames last year. It’s been a downward trajectory since 13 seconds, and that’s squarely on McD.
Promoting Brady isn’t about fixing the team or hoping to suddenly be competitive again this year, but maybe it’s a wake up call to certain players who clearly need it. Assuming that he’s not really any better than Dorsey, at least we get 7 games to see that and get over any dumb ideas about promoting from within (either for OC or potentially HC next year).
But who knows, maybe he’s brilliant and we get into the playoffs, find our spark and win it all this year. Of course then he’ll be poached immediately and we’ll be stuck with McD for eternity because he got us our ring, but I could probably live with that.
That said, at this point I’d almost just rather they continue to suck so bad that it becomes clear we need a wholesale changing of the guard, we bring in an offensive minded HC, he unlocks Josh’s full potential and we own the division for the next 10+ years with 2 or 3 SB wins along the way.
Worst case scenario is he shows just enough promise to save McD and earns himself a shot at being OC next year, only for us to still be entirely mediocre while pissing away another year of our QB’s career. Since this is Buffalo it will probably be this one.
I remember when our offense could put up 40 points.
If someone had told me before the season that I’d be anxious ahead of our week 10 matchup with the 3-5 Broncos… 🙄
Thank you! I’m so sick of hearing how grateful we should all be to make the playoffs every year and just overlook the fact that we then lose in embarrassing fashion every time. And before somebody starts in, I was a fan all through the drought years. Wide right is the first SB I was old enough to remember watching. I’m also a NY Rangers fan and watched them absolutely squander Lundqvist’s career by never putting a championship caliber team in front of him, I can’t fucking take watching the Bills do the same thing with Allen. Good is the enemy of great.
Lol, no worries. I might have concealed the plot twist too well, I can’t tell if the downvotes I’m getting are from the McDermott dick riders or people that think I am one. 😂
