As impressive as the offense gaining over 400 yds on Sunday the thing that stood out was how they were able to dominate the time of possession in the game. Even though they only managed to score 16 pts they were able to hold the ball for 37 minutes.
If they’re going to make a push for the playoffs this is the blueprint for success. The points will come if they manage to sustain drives and by keeping the ball the defense stays fresh.
It also puts more pressure on the opposing teams offense as their possessions become more important if they are getting fewer opportunities.
The only other game this year where the time of possession was this skewed was when the 49ers held the ball for 37 minutes against us.
It really felt like our offense beat ourselves sometimes with dumb mistakes right outside of field goal range like how Baltimore played against us earlier in the season, but we won. We had all the stats to score around 30 points and if a few small things go our way then we would’ve won this game in a blowout. It felt good though to be in control of a whole game and not worry that we might lose it for once
One thing I know we will not do but want us to do is go for it on 4th and 4 or less when we are just outside of field goal range, because we had a few touchbacks on punts that gave netted just around 20 yards. If we are little bit more agressive in those situations then we can score maybe 10+ more points.
