My little brother wants to start playing DOTA 2.

What was your first hero? Would you recommend it for a beginner?

New players often like ranged heroes or heroes that can blink away. For those not used to fighting games it can feel less intense.

Making new players play carry is going a little too hard on them. Starting with an offlaner or sup is a good idea. They will grasp the idea of the game’s momentum sooner. Will get introduced to stacking and pulling faster. And playing offlane will be interesting because you end up killing a lot in those positions. Playing carry will bore the shit out of them. When to be in a fight, when to push and when to farm might be too much of a responsibility on them.
But then i might not be completely correct.

My wife played stardew Valley before dota, she loved the farming. She hadn’t played moba or fps / combat games before so took a while to get confident pressing so many buttons quickly.

And I don’t know if you’ve seen any super low mmr games, but they reminded me of 6 year old kids playing football/soccer. A bunch of people following the ball and a few others randomly walking in circles on the other side of the field.

Also, learning to play other roles helps being a better carry too. You get to know exactly what the enemy team wants to do to you ( since you learn to contain the enemy teams carry without them get out of hand) , so it helps with the decision making to counter their strategies.
