We are getting a lot of successful games being remade on modern gaming systems much like movie remakes overtaking the genre.

In both media, I cannot help but feel as if a large cache of material is going unused in solid ideas for movies/video games that were originally poorly executed being revamped in to the entertaining material it always had the potential to be.

So what video games fit this criteria?

What was a great concept or idea or mechanic or plot point for a video game that deserves to be remade in modernity?

Velvet Assassin. A stealth game told from a recovering patient’s memories, where the mechanics are realistic, but the patient receiving morphine can allow her to misremember parts of her work and have her do more action-ey things when the player got stuck. This was a cool in-canon move that made the game seem so awesome. Unfortunately, it was developed by Southpeak Games, best known for Roogoo, Ninja Town, and Two Worlds, a game so bad that the press kit for the sequel included an apology letter.

Alpha Protocol, we don’t have enough spy games but a spy game with RPG features and consequencial story made my Bioware? Count me in.

Codename Eagle…turned into Battlefield. I think that was worth it.

    Dirge of Cerberus.

I liked the story, but the gameplay was clunky and bland, even by 2006 standards. A remake with modern mechanics could be really cool.

though not considered a bad game F.E.A.R. really needs a remake. That game alongside it’s godly AI were way ahead of its time for something released back in 2005

for you guys who dont know what it is, think of Half Life but with more horror and less gravity guns and bhops

MindJack. Being able to control enemies, vehicles, robots, and NPCs through hacking is such an awesome concept. Too bad it was pulled off so poorly.

Haze. Absolutely dog shit, but with a bit more work on it and some better voice actors it could be really good
