Not a raptors fan. But I’m genuinely curious why he’s only playing like 20-25 minutes when he seems to be your best option at center. Something I’m not seeing?

As a fellow poetl owner in fantasy i agree it’s frustrating. He should be a double double machine every game

He prevents anyone on the Raps from driving and scoring inside. He can’t space the floor and stands under neath the basket every play because he’s completely unable to shoot a basketball.

Those games where Scottie and Pascal went off in the 2nd half, Jak didn’t play at all. Every time they drove in the 1st half they hit a wall, with Jak standing under the basket and his man doesn’t even have to help off.

He’s averaging 8 boards a game, but doesn’t offer much resistance on the defensive boards. See Ayton going off for 20 something rebounds. He seems really slow, so his pnr defense isn’t great and his dives to the basket off screens aren’t deadly either. They lose almost nothing with him sitting.

It really sucks. He’s not a bad player. But he’s a terrible fit for the roster, and makes their bad spacing 100x worse.I’ve heard rumors that execs in MLSE are in charge of roster stuff and forced a move to try and make the play-in. It’s the only reason explanation why they would sign a big who can’t score if he’s not directly underneath the basket.

As others have said, he’s a bad FT shooter, that makes him a liability in close games, but also late-game usage is very situational. If there isn’t another big that we need him to lock down, we’re better playing a highly-switchable defense. But it’s really hard playing that highly switchable defense for a full game.

One huge benefit here is that we can give teams a look that they haven’t seen the whole game; a center has been grinding against Poeltl most of the game, and then in the fourth quarter he’s got to try to go at OG or Barnes, and he hasn’t had a chance to really feel them out yet in the game; they bring very different styles of defense that are hard for a big to immediately adapt to.

I really wouldn’t expect that to change unless some trades change the team’s makeup significantly.

The last memory i have from his play is the Wizards first half standing in the restricted area with his hands just straight up in the air (not really contesting at all) while their guys would just pop it over. So frustrating to watch, big for nothing ass.

I know i know recency bias and he’s had great moments, but forgive and understand my frustrations
