From the article, “According to Panthers owner David Tepper, however, that wasn’t how the trade was originally drawn up.

“We had a trade to go up to No. 2,” Tepper said. "It was a three-way trade with Chicago. And we were gonna go up to No. 2. And the Texans were gonna trade up to No. 1, Chicago was gonna go to No. 2, and we were gonna trade with Chicago (for No. 9 pick).

And we’re waiting. I think we had that trade kinda arranged on Wednesday. I come from a world where you do trades, and I don’t love when trades don’t happen right away. So I’m driving Scott [Fitterer] crazy. I have to apologize to Scott for this, by the way.”

It sounds like Houston backed out and figured that the Panthers were going to take Young with the first pick. They were perfectly content drafting Stroud with the second pick. Tepper got frustrated when they backed out and basically demanded a trade that would net the Panthers the first pick. This is why you don’t let the owner function as a GM.

Sounds like the Texans may have had Bryce #1 on their board, too. If we went to #2 they could’ve taken either at 1. Since we moved to 9 the Texans were forced to take the one we didn’t.

As a Texans fans, I am still pretty certain they wanted Young. I think a part of the no trade up aside from price was maybe optics since they did lose out on the pick for winning first overall pick.

Still not out on Bryce at all. I think Bryce vs Stroud will need to be shelved for a while, but Bryce in himself as a franchise QB is still possible.

I think Panthers potentially gifting Bears Caleb Williams/Drake Maye may have made Bryce’s issues feel more glaring

And there it is, there is the reason we are unlikely to be successful as long as the Teppers own this team. What potential GM is going to read this and be like “Sign me up for that”?

This is why I don’t understand all the people that wanna say “well we don’t have actual proof Tepper is a meddler”, if you’ve ever worked with upper management you can tell stuff like this happens all the time. Just judging by all the moves he’s made since buying the panthers, this guy (and his wife???) has had his hands all over a lot of major decisions just because it feeds HIS massive ego. I still feel sorry for anyone hired by this man just to be the next scapegoat for his football incompetence
