For me it was Okami. I remember you do a ton of shit to get to a certain boss which I thought it was the end, only for it to reveal that there was a loooong path ahead.

Other than that, maybe cyberpunk? I was surprised after all that stuff you do in the beginning just to see the titles pop up

    Yakuza 0 and Yakuza 4. Didn’t know the games had multiple playable characters so after 15+ hours the game change to another character and you realize how huge these games really are.

    Technically the ending of Far Cry 5 counts, Joseph Seed, the leader of the cult, Project Edens Gate, was herding people into bomb shelters for the “Great Collapse”. At the canon ending of the game, a nuclear bomb fell. The game ends after Joseph Seed carries you to a bunker. However, there was supposed to be content after the bombs fell, but it was cut from the game. Welcome to Far Cry: New Dawn.

    I will always remember the first game that made me say that: shining force 2. Have in mind games back in the day used to be very short, no more than a couple of hours. Consoles where 8-16 bit only after all.

    Then, a wild shining force 2 appeared, and after an epic story of around 7 hours, you confronted the evil demon that now has the princess. Only to loose and the demon to send the princess to his dimension and destroy the entire continent, you try to evacuate the people and leave to found a new kingdom across the sea, where the game STARTS. Full game was about 40-50 hours.
