These PFF numbers as of 11-17-23:
Player | Colton McKivitz | Mike McGlinchey |
---|---|---|
PFF Pass Block Grade | 60.5 | 59.0 |
PFF Run Block Grade | 54.3 | 72.6 |
Sacks Allowed | 5 | 5 |
Total Pressures Allowed | 22 | 33 |
Hits Allowed | 3 | 4 |
Penalties | 2 | 8 |
Contract APY | $2.3 million /yr | $17.5 million /yr |
The obvious drop off has been run blocking. McKivitz is a below average run blocker whereas McGlinchey is an above average run blocker, but McKivitz has been cleaner in pass pro, has committed fewer penalties, and costs significantly less.
Keeping McGlinchey at $17.5 million/yr would’ve been a massive mistake. We were right to move on.
McGlinchey was a solid lineman who would have like 4 or 5 big fuck ups a season.
If he didn’t want to get paid, he would’ve been worth it. But he deserved to get paid a little, so letting him walk was the right move.
Though I’m really curious how he feels about having to block for Russell Wilson…
