Did anyone else watch AGs press conference? He seemed really defensive (no pun). Multiple times he answered the media’s questions by reminding them that the Lions are a “top 10 defense” according to the stats (which is true by total yards but we are 20th points allowed).

Idk, it rubbed me the wrong me the wrong way. We all know stats dont tell the whole story. And when asked about the trade deadline, he called a reporter’s statement “the stupidest thing you could say” in regards to adding more defensive help.

AG is gritty, sure, but he doesn’t seem to take the same accountability as the rest of the coaching staff. This is NOT a fire AG post. I just wonder if others get the same vibe as me.

Our defense in its current state is at the top of the bottom 10 of NFL defenses, making us the 23rd best defense.

There are folks here who cite the same facts. It’s a ridiculous stat because they’ve played subpar offenses or QBs in 6 of their 9 games. Failed the eye test in the other 3 and got really worked over. AG is feeling pressure, rightly so, because the last performance almost cost them a game where our offense was firing on all cylinders.

I’m one of those people. I think we forget where we came from sometimes. To go from a historically bad defense to a top 10 in any way is not horrible. But also if we’re ranking defenses in reality, no way are we top 10. But my point is that there’s still hope. We can, and must do better, but there’s hope in my mind. And we’re definitely not going to fire him mid season with our record, so I’m glad to hang on to that hope. But I’m also not blind to the fact that we need to improve.

I understand where you are coming from and I don’t really agree but he did say there’s things they can do better and you can tell from the hutch interview the players aren’t happy.

I am concerned that there are days the defense just seems to forget there’s a game that day. Seahawks, Ravens, Chargers but other games they look like an actual nfl defense.

I think I was most confused with campbell saying if that game would’ve ended differently he would have put that on the offense.

I don’t know of anyone knows this but Justin Herbert is a fucking stud. He essentially ran a two minute offense for the entire 2nd half and he and Keenan Allen played like their lives depended on it. There’s no shame in that in my opinion, which counts for shit I know but still, open your eyes people, that’s a hellava offense over there. Their record should be way better than it is.

Herbert had 5 consecutive games of under 300 yards passing heading into the Lions game. The Jets held him to 136 yards, the Raiders to 167. KC and Dallas held him well within check. If the Lions want to be Super Bowl contenders they can’t have performances like that…and it’s happened 3 times already this season.

I felt the exact same way. I text my friend after I watched it and said I hope we are not ignoring our gaps. I’m all in on this team and the success. It’s awesome to see. I just want us to be even better. Lots of awesome pieces here but can’t ignore the flaws.

Imo, he was using the press conference to send a message to the players. That message being you’re a good defense that had a bad game.

You have to understand who the audience is, he wasn’t saying this because he wants the media to say nice things about him.

He says this because his defense just got embarrassed and he needs to remind them they are better than that game showed.

Look at what Flores is doing in Minnesota. That defense was awful last year they ranked like 30th or something. Flores comes in and has the same personnel if not worse and has them playing like a top 10 defense. Scheme matters.

We don’t have the personnel for a top 10 defense right now. We just don’t. Hutch and Alim are our only plus players on the D line. Analzone is our 2nd best pass rusher and that’s a problem. Our secondary has to cover for too long, and the more talented qbs are having success.

But even if we don’t have the guys for an elite defense, AG is not getting the most out of his players like Flores is in Minny. He also struggles with in game adjustments. Our guys were that confused because Allen was in motion!? Give me a break.

Sometimes a coach will say something that doesn’t seem grounded in reality but he’s saying it to show the players that he’s on their side. That may or may not be the case here, but the current coaching staff is not a group that blames the players for shortcomings.

I honestly at a middle ground with AG he’s good the he sucks. Ivan take it or leave it I would like to see like John fox call plays it would never happen but ya. But the way he handles the media is really arrogant and hasn’t really accomplished shit. But hey I’m whatever with buddy.

For as innovative and awesome our offense is, our defense is equally basic and pitiful.

AG might be delusional if he thinks our defense is actually good. Our defense only looks good when our offense dominates and stays on the field.

No one here claims to be a better coach than AG. But media has fair questions for AG and he ignores the question to point out his decent defense against bad teams this season? Yeah ok
