Ever since the 2020 KDA debacle it has been clear as day that it just looks bad. Obviously the quality has improved since and covid definitely had a role to play in the quality but even now, 3 years later we get this ps2 lookin ass boy band on stage.
I didn’t mind the other ARG aspects like the ezreal ult or even the mordekaiser but the humans just look like wax figures. Especially since theyre always blurry, presumably because the moving camera causes them to constantly readjust positions so they dont fly across the stage.
Just commission some high quality cosplay/themed outfits for the performers to wear. it looks 1 million times better and doesn’t feel jarring to look at.
100% they already know this but dont care, i doubt anyone would look at any playback they have to do to makesure everything is going fine and working before worlds start and say this looks GREAT
Please Riot, stick to the visual effects (like ezreal ult) and and at least don’t use human characters. Which exec in Riot is fine with this? True Damage was alright, the Elder Dragon was perfect. We’re still a long way from satisfactory hologram stuff. Please please please keep it as a momentary thing during the ceremony.

AR with character models have been solved since miku debuted on screen, hell almost it’s been fucking solved by vtubing companies maybe 1/100th the size of riot how are they still fucking this shit up

The biggest issue they have is how dark the arena is, which immediately poses a huge problem when it comes to lighting. Not to mention, the movements are very stiff. At least in 2018, the event was at an open stadium and the sun was shining, so the characters didn’t have lighting problems and it looked pretty good.
Why don’t they just opt for a really sick cinematic with a live orchestra or something. That would have been better imho.
in 2018 it was just as bad, go back and watch, the thing is the actual singers killed it so we don’t really pay attention to the models themselves.
Technology like this are supposed to be viewed at night so you can hide shit, not on the open sunlight.
Only impressive thing was the Ezreal ult but until we have ARG glasses those details will keep going unnoticed.
