For such a large company, it’s unbelievable that they continue to completely destroy their servers every Tuesday for maintenance. This might have been normal practice all those years ago but technology has improved and deployment without downtime is a solved problem. Their complacency is astounding.
I actually buy games off Steam when possible because of this issue.
For real though. If Guild Wars 2 can have backup servers, why can’t the biggest gaming storefront?
Most companies that have their own in house farms need to do maintenance on them.
They haven’t sold their soul to Amazon/Microsoft/Google just yet for 24/7 uptime in the cloud.
It’s 2023 and people can’t find something else to do when the video game thingy is in maintenance mode?
Maybe use those 10 minutes of downtime to shower. Or is once a week too much for you?
