Only 8 teams in the league now, which means two series’ per day, 2 days per week. Less teams means more competition for the remaining spots, and in turn makes the remaining teams in the league more competitive so there’s less snooze feats. Plus the new patch looks super interesting and could reignite interest in the game.
So in the previous system with 10 teams, double round robin, every team played 18 games and there were 90 total games played.
If we do a single round robin best of three with 8 teams, the every team will play somewhere between 14 and 21 games depending on series length. So the season would now take somewhere between 56 games and 84 games total. Is my math correct there? Can someone peer check me? So i’m pretty certain that even if you go to a full three games for every series, its still a shorter overall broadcast time than what we would have had in a 10 team season.
Personally I’ve been asking for single round robin best of three for a year or two now, I think its an improvement over the best of one format.
The new patch being interesting has 0 ties to the leagues viewership. Plus you will see this in LPL/LCK already since they already do BO3. They will not do B03. The reason that they got rid of BO3 after 2017 was it tanked the viewership. BO3 was a better viewing experience for hardcore fans but the casual League watcher it was too much. That’s why while B01 are kinda ass in League, it still gets an insane amount of views because
- Yknow what team is playing
- How much time you’re invested
BO3 can either be 2/3 games so the time varies that not all fans can watch and sometimes games are a slow bleed (Yknow who’s going to win but they’re slowly doing it) which causes people to leave the stream and wait for the next game while doing something else. I love BO3s in league but for the LCS which is dying in viewership it wouldn’t make sense to bring back this format as of right now
Yes. Please bring back best of series for the regular splits. The best of 1 is painfully boring. If one team has a good day or gets a cheese pick off in the early game, it becomes so one sided and we don’t really get a full sense of how good teams are.
