The Steelers, packers and 49ers are honestly bigger rivals to me than the commies. The commanders haven’t been much of a rival since the 90’s and now it isn’t even the “cowboys and Indians” game it’s just two nfc east teams. Since the 2000’s there’s been just a handful of great games vs them.
We’ve been crazy rivals vs the 49ers basically since the 70’s. NFC championship games, playoff games, big regular season games. The packers are maybe our earliest rival from the ice bowl to the 90’s dominance in the playoffs over them to the 2010’s dominance in the playoffs over us. The Steelers are from the afc but still to face them in the super bowl 3 times over many decades along with always being close regular season games I think they’re definitely close to the packers and niners. Of course the eagles are our biggest rival in the division but that’s also actually more modern because pre 90’s they weren’t as great vs us. The giants have always been tough. But enough to make them bigger rivals than the niners or packers? Idk it’s close. Here’s my list. Against outside the 70’s and 80’s really Washington hasn’t been that great vs us.
- 49ers (9 playoff games, 6 NFC champs)
- Packers (8 playoff games, 2 NFL champs)
- Eagles (most hated)
- Steelers (3 Super Bowls)
- Giants
As always, we living rent free in some fanbase’s head
- Eagles
- 49ers
- Giants/Commies
Odd how just a few years ago I would have probably put Green Bay above the 49ers.
It started in the 90’s when we battled them year after year for the Super Bowl. They are assholes but yes they are rivals.
Currently Eagles/49ers and everyone else doesn’t matter. I don’t see how one can’t see the 49ers as a major rival seeing how they’ve knocked us out of the playoffs 2 years in a row. They definitely are.
I would go Eagles 1 and 49ers 2
IMO, the rival order is:
- Eagles
- 49ers
- Giants
- Packers
- Commanders/Redskins
I would say the Eagles,Giants, Redskins are all bigger rivals then them. They get the number 4 spot I guess.
Yes, because of the past and recent playoff history between the two teams.
In my opinion, the order is:
-
Eagles
-
Commanders
-
Giants
-
49ers
I don’t consider any other team to be a rival. Steelers are only a rival if you’re a boomer, and the Packers aren’t relevant enough without Rodgers for me to consider them a rival.
-
- Eagles
- Niners
- Commanders
- Giants
I may be too young but I’ve just never felt a rivalry with the Packers or Steelers (I just remember 2 playoff losses to the Packers, but hey, it’s playoff losses, it’s the Cowboys’ specialty). Other than those teams no one comes to mind.
Growing up in the 2000s, I always considered the Niners a rival just below the likes of Philly and Washington.
I guess back then the team’s playoff was more fresh, but its been rejuvenated a little as of late.
Redskins Eagles 9ers Steelers Commies Giants. In that order.
The Whole NFC East, Eagles at the top, ALWAYS , Then #4 Niners #5 Packers #6 Steelers #7 Bears #8 Bills. And then fuck everyone else. To death.
yes and a long time one at that
Are you a new fan?
In 1970, the 49ers had the 2nd best record in the NFC (10-3-1) and beat the team with the best record (Minnesota 12-2) in the Divisional Round. We then faced them for a chance for one of us to go to our first Super Bowl appearance. QB John Brodie and WR Gene Washington were All-Pro that year with the highest scoring offense in the league.
We shut them down and beat them 17-10 in SF.
In 1971, we again faced them in the NFC Championship for a chance to go to a Super Bowl. We again, stuffed their offense and beat them 14-3 in Dallas this time.
In 1972, in what would be the organizations last winning season until 1981, we faced them in the Divisional Round at the brand new Candlestick Park. They were leading 28-13 in the fourth quarter, when Landry put Roger Staubach into the game. We got a FG with 10 minutes to play to only be down 28-16, and then Staubach led two TD drives to finish the comeback and win the game 30-28.
THREE years in a row, we BEAT them and tarnished their chance at success. It was the STEPPING STONE to our NFC Dynasty teams of the 70’s. The 49ers COULD have went to Super Bowl V and VI. Instead WE did. Those 49er teams are long forgotten.
Once Bill Walsh rebuilt the team, we finally played them again in the NFC Championship and… you may have heard of this game - Joe Montana threw the winning TD pass to Dwight Clark to beat us 28-27 in SF.
That was the STEPPING STONE to THEIR NFL Dynasty teams of the 80’s.
In the 90’s we played them THREE Straight years in the NFC Championship. Winning TWO of the Three. It was again our STEPPING STONE to our NFL Dynasty teams of the 90’s.
Since then, they have had 11.5 winning season in the last 27 years, compared to our 16 (with a fair amount of 8-8 and 9-7’s), BUT they have been back to the NFC Championship EIGHT times with THREE different coaches and SIX different QB’s!!! And to the Super Bowl TWICE! But have not won it.
We haven’t gotten past the Divisional Round.
They have now knocked us out of the Playoffs the last two years while we fielded two of the most talented Cowboys teams of the last 27 years.
Anyone that doesn’t recognize the rivalry there doesn’t know the history of this team.
