I was thinking about this scenario, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen it happen in a game. What would happen if a QB was hit while throwing a backwards pass and the hit caused him to lose control of the ball. If the QB’s hand is moving forward when the hit occurs, but he’s throwing backwards, is it a fumble or incomplete pass? Has anyone ever seen this occur in a game?
If the QB is throwing a backwards pass, their arm is by definition not moving forward. Even without being hit, if that ball hits the ground it’s live
A backwards pass is a lateral, which is a fumble.
No backwards passes go to the Qb’s passing stats, they would be considered run plays. Only passes that advance forward down the field from the point of releasing the ball are officially passes and thus can fall incomplete.
