As of now - both are comfortably at the top of lottery odds. Next year is supposed an even better draft class headlined by Cooper Flagg.

Detroit’s 1st round pick to New York protected for selections 1-18 in 2024, 1-13 in 2025, 1-11 in 2026 and 1-9 in 2027;

Washington’s 1st round pick to New York protected for selections 1-12 in 2024, 1-10 in 2025 and 1-8 in 2026.

Both convert to seconds afterward. Anyone hopeful one will convey as a first?

    I think they’ll both convey eventually, and being further out isn’t a bad thing. If they all conveyed this season we’d be in a scramble to make a trade. We already have 4 likely picks this draft, and there’s no way we can use them all. And if WSH is so bad that the 1st never conveys, then we get two seconds from them that will almost be like two late 1sts. So it’s a WIN/WIN. Flipping that first into those 3 firsts was a steal for us, outside of the fact that it helps clear cap for Brunson, it was a huge addition to our future assets.

    This is why I never understood the talk about us having a bunch of 1st round assets

    We have protected picks from Dallas, Milwaukee, Washington, and Detroit. Dallas is looking like a late 1st this year. Milwaukee will probably be the same in 2025. Washington might never convert to a 1st. Detroit is more probable, but will likely be in the teens if it does.

    Those picks aren’t all that valuable. The best picks we have as trade chips are our own, which is why it’s understandable that this FO is hesitant to make any high-profile trade

      That is the hope, but who wants these FRPs that will take a couple of years to coney, if ever

      I am more confident in DAL’s pick this year though

        i don’t think anyone truly wants them (knicks included)

        but i also don’t think they’re completely valueless—even if they convert to 2nd rounders, picks are picks. you could also feasibly bundle them and trade up (if the draft class is stacked)

          teams dont want picks if they are 2-3 years away?..lol. Have you seen all the superstar trades lately? How many of those 1sts weren’t 2-3 years away? Knicks don’t NEED them b/c we have a full roster and are in contending mode, but a rebuilding team would absolutely want those picks.

            this is pretty much what i just said, yeah

            they’re not amazing picks but they work in a deep draft

            picks are picks

            etc
